Bill Evans - Complete Discography

HOME

This complete discography is taken from ”Letter from Evans, The Bill Evans Jazz Resource - Turn On The Stars”, once freely available on Internet and now apparently unavailable and out of print.
They are mainly vinyl prints, but also tapes and VHS are listed. Of course not always available. They are listed also 18 tribute albums, a list that probably will increase in the time.

The recordings are listed by date and identified by a double progressive number, starting from zero, being the first recording a private tape with an unknown quartet of musicians, up to 304, the last known recording on September 10th, 1980, five days before the premature death of the great pianist. The second number identifies the tracks.
For each recording they are reported (apart when data are not available) place and date, the track list, title of tracks and of the album (sometimes different titles in successive editions) and the identification code.

215/1 Your Story
Broadcasted on September 17, 1980, as part of The Merv Griffin Show (TV)
Special music show with George Shearing, Phillis Diller and Bill Evans.
When introducing Bill, Merv mentions that Phillis Diller brought all of her Bill Evans albus for him to
autograph.

Bill changes up the script by not playing what the producer had intended, an up tempo number. He plays a
recent composition "Your Story," formerly the diddlly-aah song. On the second chorus he nods the band in
to accompany him. Ray Brown gives it a try and maybe makes about 30 percent of it. Mundell Lowe is also
in the band.

Merv and Musical Director Mort Lindsay? stand behind what sounds like a decent grand piano while Bill plays
Come Rain or Come Shine, solo piano. date is unknown but probably before the Merv Griffin show above.

304 Bill Evans Trio, The Last Date, 9/10/80
Recorded live at Fat Tuesdays, NYC, Wednesday, September 10, 1980. Bill Evans died on Monday,
September 15, 1980.Bill Evans piano, Marc Johnson bass, Joe LaBarbera drums. This was the first night of a
five night engagement. Bill called in sick on the second night and Andy LaVerne was called by the club
manager to fill in for him. This is from a tape of unknown origin and is poor quality, probably a small
cassette recorder placed on the floor of the bandstand with automatic gain control. The tape is very bass
heavy and boomy. The order of tunes was edited by someone. This is not the original order.
